Christmas in Austria
24th December 2008 to 26th December 2008

Over Christmas (between the 22nd and 28th December) I had a holiday in Austria.

The first two days were spent getting there and having a rest day.

Christmas Eve was spent at the market in the well known city of Salzburg (birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), and we took the option of travelling a bit further to the Salzkammergut Lakes, the Mondsee and the Wolfgangsee.

Christmas Day we travelled on the 'Gisela Bahn' which uses three vintage electric OBB locos on a service between Kitzbuhel and Zell am See.

Boxing Day was my favourite day, travelling from Mayrhofen to Fugen on the historic and well known Zillertalbahn (Ziller Valley Railway)

On Christmas Eve, we went on an option to visit the Salzkammergut Lakes. These first two pictures were taken at the edge of Lake Mondsee. The town where these were taken is also home to the church where the wedding scene in 'The Sound of Music' was filmed.

An hour or so later found us in the town of St. Gilgen, on the edge of the Wolfgangsee lake.
